About OrthoCAP

Why we care

Musculoskeletal (MSK) pain is a significant and increasingly common cause of disability and healthcare expenses. The challenge with MSK pain is that it's influenced by various factors, including physical, psychological, and social aspects. This leads to a wide range of experiences with and responses to treatment, making it difficult to determine the most suitable approach for a particular person. Ineffective treatments can result in costly revisions and prolonged use of opioids.

Our solution

With the development of OrthoCAP, doctors and patients will be able to participate in patient recovery in real-time. The app will gather information from patients about how they're doing before and after treatment. Our research team will then synthesize this data to give doctors useful insights over time and even make predictions about how well various treatments are likely to work for different patients after treatment and in the long run.

Who is eligible?

Patients undergoing consultations, planned treatment or surgery at either UCSF Spine Center or the Orthopaedic Spine Clinic. You must be an adult (18+) and have either:

Why should you care?
